#MondayMingle: Is AVON a legitimate direct selling company? Or a pyramid scheme?

Are you someone looking for an opportunity to work from home on a part-time basis? Have you heard pitches about earning bigs dollars a month from some? I’m here to tell you, first, it’s hard to distinguish legitimate work-at-home programs. And second, any “get rich quick” pitch should be viewed with caution.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, works to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace. Read their post on “The telltale signs of a pyramid scheme.”

Here’s what I do know. Avon Products, Inc. is an American international manufacturer and direct selling company in beauty, household, and personal care categories. Avon has $10 billion in annual revenue. Avon abides by the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations “Code of Ethics” and in addition there are three major aspects of Avon’s business model that safeguard our Representatives and Consumers. We maintain adherence to these principles in all of our markets. They are:

The Avon business model does not rely on nor does it encourage
sales of inventory, training or business support materials between Representatives.
The core of our business model is Representatives selling our products to an end consumer.

Avon has reasonable return policies.
Representatives are not left holding excess inventory.

Avon limits earnings to five generations.
We do not promise commissions on infinite sales. Rather, we primarily promote and incentivize Representatives based on their sales to Customers.

When consumers have questions about direct selling, we say to them: At its best, direct selling is “I tried the product. I liked the product. I recommend it to a friend.” If you are considering entering direct sales (or ‘social selling’) here are three tips to remember:

Like the product! Make sure it’s a product you use and enjoy yourself. You will be selling to your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.

Understand the product. All good direct selling/social selling companies will provide training and mentoring support. But you should not need to invest heavily in start-up training and marketing materials.

Know who you are buying from and who is paying you. When ordering product for your customers, make sure you will be purchasing from the Company, not the individual who recruited you into selling. And that your earnings will be paid by the Company.

Let me share my story. I have been buying Avon products for over 25 years but had Avon ladies come and go from my life. I’ve been a successful small business owner for 22+ years but was looking for a new opportunity to earn extra money. I chose Avon because it’s a company with a well-known name. I love their products and really do offer quality at affordable prices.

I’d love to tell you more! I can show you how to supplement your income or enjoy discounts on your own Avon purchases.  I’m looking for dedicated and motivated people interested in making money. Avon offers an earning potential competitive to other direct selling companies. I can answer your questions and concerns as well as give you everything you need to start your own work from home business!

So Go Ahead & Dream Big. Contact Me and I will show how to become an Avon Representative today!

Sincerely,
Nancy Rago
