BLACK FRIDAY FAQ

When is Black Friday? Black Friday is always the day after Thanksgiving.

Why is it called Black Friday? The origin of the term Black Friday is thought to have a couple of origins, but the most popular story says that the name came from the fact that the day’s sales are so great, it can push retailers “into the black.” It is also thought to be called Black Friday because so many people went out to shop that it caused traffic accidents and sometimes even rowdy crowds.

Is Black Friday a holiday? Black Friday is not a federal holiday, but is a public holiday in some States. Many people save their holiday shopping for the day after Thanksgiving as some stores extend their opening hours and offer big sales on Black Friday. Black Friday deals have also become widely shopped online with most retailers.

How did Black Friday start? The earliest evidence of the phrase Black Friday in a shopping context suggests that the term originated in Philadelphia, where it was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.

What are the best Black Friday deals? From makeup and skin care to jewelry and fragrance, Avon has the year’s best deals and most exclusive offers.
