Meaningful Ways to Be There for Someone You Love During Breast Cancer
When a loved one is diagnosed with breast cancer, it can feel overwhelming—for both them and you. Thoughtful, practical support often matters more than grand gestures. Here are real, actionable ways to show your love and make a difference.
Avon Wears Pink in October!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for decades, Avon has been at the forefront in the fight against breast cancer. As the Avon Lady of NJ since 2010, I’m proud to be part of a company that empowers communities while raising funds and awareness.
Join Avon Ambassadors by wearing pink this month to promote early detection through regular screenings, support research, and show solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.🎗️
Participate in a Breast Cancer Event
Volunteering at events like the Avon 39 Walk for Breast Cancer in NYC was unforgettable—pitching tents at the Avon Wellness Village, cheering walkers on, and witnessing the incredible spirit of the community. Even after the Avon 39 series ended in 2017, Avon’s mission continues. Today, I proudly support the American Cancer Society‘s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. Walking—or volunteering behind the scenes—honors survivors, thrivers, and caregivers while raising funds to help end breast cancer.
Educate Yourself
Take time to read about breast cancer so you can understand what your loved one is experiencing and learn how best to help.
Plan Time to Visit
Check your schedule and communicate your availability with your loved one. Visits don’t always have to be long—helping with chores, babysitting, or pet-sitting can be just as meaningful.
Run Errands
From grocery shopping to picking up prescriptions or helping with kids’ activities, running errands allows your loved one to conserve energy. If you’re unsure, simply ask how you can help.
Do Normal Activities with Your Loved One
Take walks, cook a favorite meal, watch a beloved movie, or enjoy a manicure together. Keeping life familiar and fun can provide comfort and help your loved one feel connected and engaged.
Take Them to Appointments
Accompanying your loved one to doctor visits or treatments provides support and peace of mind. You can also take notes and review them later, which can be invaluable.
Listen to Their Needs
Be present and responsive, but also respect their boundaries. Some days they may want to talk about cancer; other days, they may not. Your patience and understanding mean everything.
Make a Care Package

Consider the Caregiver
